Cover Letter
My objective is to work for a leader in the fashion industry. With a degree in Fashion Design, past and
current work experience, and personal ventures I am an excellent candidate. I am a highly motivated
team player who has consistently found success while working in fast-paced and demanding
environments.
I enjoy challenging myself, and working for a private label like Paul Davril afforded me the opportunity
to delve in to all aspects of the fashion industry. My responsibilities included all line research and
development, technical measurements, graphic and trim creation, overseas communication for
sampling, and fittings. One of the most fulfilling aspects of this job was creating a new maternity line.
Having never worked on a maternity line previously, completion of this task required a top to bottom
approach which included extensive market research to understand common maternity line issues,
and to provide a base which to improve upon. My maternity line consistently received 5-star ratings
from customers for impeccable fit and fabric on websites such as Walmart.com; this line resulted in
additional sales of $262,000 in its first two months of introduction.
My experience at Nautica enhanced my ever-growing knowledge of knits and wovens, computer
proficiency, and operational skills. When I arrived at Nautica, there was no senior knit designer in my
department; therefore, I took on most of the responsibilities of that position. Six months later, I was
presented with the challenge of building a new Sportswear line due to my dedication and eagerness to
contribute in any way needed to build a successful line. To this end, my annual performance review
stated that my “infectious positive attitude helped create a work environment where our team could
openly and effective collaborate and quickly move projects to completion”.
Due to my outstanding performance, contribution to the team, and dedication to job responsibilities, I
was the only assistant designer at Jones New York invited to attend all status meetings. I was also
given the responsibility for designing the soft dressings line; this allowed me to use my creative vision
to provide the primary design direction. I extended my personal education by traveling to international
tradeshows and factory workshops in Paris and China in order to evaluate best practices in such
diverse apparel environments.
In addition to my extensive design experience, I have excellent communication skills and work habits.
I bring a positive attitude and energy to a team and enjoy the collaborative nature of the design
process. I am now poised for my next challenging design position and look forward to the opportunity
to express my passion, high energy, and determination during a meeting with you.
Kind regards,
Amanda Brackett
